What is an Amnio DNA test?

A DNA test can be carried out on the DNA of the unborn child by removing cells from the amniotic fluid surrounding the foetus. The amniotic fluid will contain mainly cells that are from the foetus as opposed to the mother. An Amnio DNA test, involves taking a hollow needle and removing a small amount of amniotic fluid. The foetal cells are isolated, and a PCR based DNA test conducted on the extracted material.
